Is Non-Specific Spinal Manipulation Effective?

Spinal Manipulative Therapy for Nonspecific Low Back Pain: Does Targeting a Specific Vertebral Level Make a Difference?: A Systematic Review With Meta-analysis

Peter Westlund Sørensen, Casper Glissmann Nim, Erik Poulsen, and Carsten Bogh JuhlJournal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy 2023 0:9, 1-11

3 takeaways for me on this study:

  1. The condition and the included studies are very specific and targeted (pun intended). I’d be careful coming to any generalized conclusions.
  2. It demonstrates that there is enough redundancy in how the body processes a spinal manipulation that it does not need to be “sniper specific ” to get results.
  3. We should be confident, but not too cocky about our techniques.
